Softwood Doors for Scilly Spirit Distillery

We recently worked with the owners of Scilly Spirit Distillery, an award-winning gin distillery and crafting school on the Isles of Scilly. Since its establishment in 2018, the family-run business has gained widespread recognition and acclaim for the quality of their spirits. Their gins are now distributed nationwide by a number of major retailers - including John Lewis!

This was the second time we have worked with Scilly Spirit. Before they worked with us, they had planned to find a local supplier, but struggled to find anyone who could help them on the island (especially as the doors needed to be a custom size). Then they discovered us! We worked with them to design and create a set of premium wooden doors for their distillery.

Impressed with the quality of our work, Scilly Spirit soon reached out to us to create another set of softwood doors for the building. After they sent over their specifications, we got to work creating their new doors.

The Project

We handcrafted two softwood doors in the ‘Ashurst’ style, featuring a sleek, rectangular design with a modern edge. They were 3.52m wide and 2.44m high.

Delivery posed a challenge, as we would need to transport the doors over sea rather than land. We solved this by liaising with a shipping company at North Arm Pier in Penzance, Cornwall. We worked hard to make sure our doors (along with all the ironmongery) were wrapped correctly and delivered at the precise time to make it onto the boat.

The Results

We supplied the doors untreated so the owners could decide on what colour to paint them. They settled on a vibrant navy blue to complement their building and reflect their brand colours.

The owners were delighted with the quality of our service, as well as the end result: a striking, yet practical set of doors that would serve them for many years to come.

Looking to enhance your property with unique wooden doors or gates? We craft all of our pieces by hand, combining premium wood with traditional craftsmanship for breathtaking results.
