HOW TO MEASURE FOR WOODEN GATES
At Wooden Gate Makers, we don’t believe in a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. We make all of our wooden gates to measure, guaranteeing a seamless fit into the fence or wall of your property.
Before we can start handcrafting your gate, we’ll ask you to provide us with accurate measurements of the area where the gate will be installed. Read on for a detailed explanation of how you can do this!
What do I need to measure?
The measurement you’ll need to take depends on whether you’re fitting your gate within a fence or wall. A fence will require a "Post to Post" measurement, while a wall will require a "Brick to Brick" measurement.
We recommend that you take a minimum of three measurements between the pillars or gate posts: across the top, middle, and bottom. If there are any discrepancies between measurements, or if your gate will be on uneven ground, be sure to note this down so we can accommodate for this.
What if I’m not sure my measurements are correct?
If you don’t feel confident in your measurements, don’t worry! We're happy to double-check them for you once you've placed your order with us. Once you accept the estimate and submit your deposit, we'll schedule a visit to measure you accurately. Please note that this service is only available within our fitting area, which covers a 50-mile radius around our location.
What if I’m planning to automate my wooden gates?
If you're planning on automating your gates, you should always consult with a professional gate automation specialist. The required clearances can vary depending on the type of automation system you intend to use. We advise against DIY automated gate installations, as they can be extremely dangerous if not fitted correctly.
